  Although failed as a common housing device, the dome is realized under more fittingly adventurous circumstances; camping tents, playground fixtures, and colossal sports stadiums like the Astrodome. Structures that all incite pile-tendencies like spontaneity and playfulness (discussed in the duty of maturity chapter). In line with this chapters producer/product parallel, one can conceive of the dome (a pile resembling figure in and of itself) as a manifestation of and fostering agent for pile inclinations (curiosity and playfulness) exhibited by Fuller.

Soviet Style Mega Blocks

  Before the discussion of possible capitalist/non-capitalist representations, some clarity pertaining to the objects in question. A Soviet Style Mega Block is meant to signify a clustering of uniform apartment buildings (a mean height approx. 12 stories). When taken as individuals, in comparison to one another, the structures are void of character and distinction, exhibiting stark similarities among color, size, and most importantly shape. Yet as a complex, that is an orchestrated collection of multiple buildings, the repetition of uniform stacks forms an overwhelmingly impressionable landscape. (Realizations include a large number of public housing projects in American inner-cities like New York and Chicago as well as the minimalist sculptures of Donald Judd.) For with individual diversities sacrificed, conforming components render eventual distinction. An architectural visualization of power via numbers.
