This approach to pile movement may prove to be more practical for some. It requires less time and can be accomplished on-the-go. We must be careful, though, not to fall in a trap, inspired by laziness, that precludes us from executing complete pile migrations. Excessive pile breeding could lead to an overpopulation problem worse than capitalism ever dreamed.

The subject of pile breeding spawns another difficult question. Are piles in motion piles? At what point does the burgeoning offspring of an established pile become a pile of its own? What do you call pile matter that is being transported between the parent and baby piles? To answer these questions, we will adhere to a strict interpretation of our definition of piles. If the baby pile contains three or more units of the parent pile, it has matured into a pile of its own. Similarly, if the pile matter in transport is more than three units deep it becomes pile-flux.

Along these same lines, a pile is never “complete.” There are no finished or unfinished piles. Piles have no beginning or ending. Artistically speaking, the pile migrator may find it necessary to decrease, increase or stretch a pile's volume, but these aesthetic concerns do not change the classification of the pile. Piles have a style that precludes critical appreciation. The pile is a self-contained medium and message.

In this sub-section we wish to encourage a more active approach to pile movement. By offering a handful of fun approaches to the commonly viewed “chore” of moving piles, we hope to make the activity more accessible and enjoyable. The goal here is to have more people converted to a pile-moving-mindset, not to simply have more piles moved. Involvement is always better than appreciation.

team pile movement

The concept of pile movement need not be an isolationist endeavor. Pile migration can be a healthy activity that the entire community can support. Pile movement can be a great way to meet people and make new friends. Working in cooperation on large-scale pile movements can forge lasting companionships. Hard labor and common goals have a tendency to bring people together from a variety of backgrounds. Plus, moving piles is just plain easier when more people are helping.

To this end, we jocularly encourage the formation of pile moving teams. Consisting of friends, neighbors or co-workers, the teams don't need to have a set number of participants or any restrictions to entry. The idea of team pile movement is simply a positive approach to involving more people in the activity. There are of course no rules to pile movement. Since there is no single way to move a pile that is better than any another method, there can be no competition amongst other pile moving teams. But feel free to draw up some politely colored uniforms, team names and ironic slogans to generate team unity.
